Night crossing to the Balearic Islands

41°22.554’N 2°10.878'E Barcelona, Spain to 39.7952° N, 2.6975° E Port Soller, Mallorca

It’s an 18 hour crossing from Barcelona to Port Soller, Mallorca, and we want to arrive at our destination in daylight so we cast the lines off at 6p.m. We had wrongly assumed there was a fuel berth somewhere amongst the three surrounding marinas of Port Barcelona however it turned out we had to go to Port Olympic, only a couple of miles away… in the wrong direction! After filling up we finally started heading in the right direction closer to 8p.m, which meant we got a spectacular sunset behind Barcelona to see us off.

The trick with night sailing is to turn the boat navigation lights on and turn off all other lights. Once you do it is incredible how quickly your lights adjust to the moonlight.

We have audiobooks downloaded and in-between the sailing we stare at the stars, the stars are the best bit!

Dawn arose as Captain was snoozing this morning and sunrise felt like a special show just for me and the sea.

And then, we were there. Hello Mallorca.
